Outsourcing

Outsourcing became a term most Americans are familiar with in the 1980's as American corporations moved overseas to increase profits through, among other things, reduced taxes, lower wages, and the elimination of benefits.
Consumer companies like Nike and manufacturing companies like Dexter Shoe and Hathaway shirt are examples of this migration away from America's shores.
This move had devastating effects on the manufacturing base in America with blue collar jobs leaving in droves. However, with this move consumers benefited from increasingly cheaper goods which allowed families some economic relief. This has become increasingly necessary as wages for the American worker steadily fell throughout the last part of the twentieth century.
It has been a trade off as sorts.
The question for you is to express your opinion on whether this has been a good thing for America or a damaging trend that leads to economic disaster for our country?
This is a complicated issue with wide ranging implications for your future as we move into the 21st century.
After our class discussions, what is you opinion on outsourcing?
